a few things
about Todd
Todd Smith studied very little at the University of Montana before becoming a grizzled and runty Twin Cities publishing veteran. His work has appeared in The Rake Magazine, Minnesota Monthly Magazine, and he penned the wildly popular Spazz Dad print column and blog for Twin Cities METRO Magazine. As the landscape of print media in the Twin Cities began to shift, Smith turned his focus to the sport of ice hockey in Minnesota. He wrote regularly for USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey. He was hired by Chris Snow, the assistant General Manager for the Minnesota Wild, to be a contributing writer for The Minnesota Wild of the NHL Network. A story that came from this monumental collaboration became the inspiration for his first book, Hockey Strong: Stories of Sacrifice From Inside the NHL. Later, Smith co-wrote Brave Enough with Olympian Jessie Diggins. He runs the Donkey Soccer League, a Sunday morning pick-up game for assorted nitwits and out-of-shape jabronis.
Todd Smith continues to work full time as the director of a landscape supply yard in South Minneapolis.
"Todd Smith is the poet laureate of the overlooked, and Relegated is delightful. It's a story about soccer and life, love and joy, connection and hope, underdogs and also-rans. Like the clubs and cities and fans he lovingly profiles, Smith is impossible not to root for."
